Mandatory Flu Vaccination Policy

In 2013, Saint Francis implemented a Mandatory Influenza Vaccination Policy.

You are required to get a new flu vaccination if you serve on the premises of any Saint Francis sites as any of the following:

  • Physician
  • Clinical Staff
  • Administrative Staff
  • Contractor
  • Vendor
  • Student Worker
  • Temporary Worker
  • Volunteer

To avoid wearing a mask, you must receive your flu vaccination by November 17, 2016.

Please explore this site to learn more about the flu and the Saint Francis policy.
As we approach this year's flu season, additional information will be provided.

Key Policy Highlights

The policy applies to Health Care Personnel (“HCP,” as described in the Definitions section of the policy) at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, Saint Francis Medical Group, Inc., Saint Francis Care Medical Group, P.C., Asylum Hill Family Medicine, Saint Francis Behavioral Health Group P.C., Saint Francis Emergency Medicine Group, P.C., and Collaborative Laboratory Services, collectively referred to as “Covered Entities” in this policy. This also includes all non-employed members of the Medical Staff who expect to enter any Saint Francis entity for patient visitation during the designated influenza season.

A validation badge will be provided to all of those who receive the vaccine and must be worn and visible along with your regular hospital ID badge. The validation badge must be worn at all times on Saint Francis premises during the designated flu season.

Exemptions may be allowed for those individuals with qualifying medical conditions or religious beliefs. Those who are exempt will be required to wear surgical masks within six feet of any patient and in any clinical areas throughout the designated influenza season. The timeline to submit a medical or religious exemption is September 1 – October 1, 2016. To access the forms, click on the “Important Files for Download” section on the right.

Any employed staff member who does not receive a flu shot will be subject to termination for non-compliancy. Non-employed participants who fail to comply with the mandate will be immediately restricted from access to Saint Francis sites.
