(HARTFORD, Conn., June 28, 2010 – Rebecca Burke, R.N., M.S., N.E.A.-B.C., of Bloomfield, has been named Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
In her new position, Burke will be responsible for the delivery of patient care and the administrative direction of all nursing personnel at Saint Francis and Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital.
Burke received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, and her master of science in nursing administration from Boston University. She is a graduate of the Wharton Nurse Executive Fellows program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
Burke most recently served as Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at The Miriam Hospital, Providence, R.I., and previously served as Director of Inpatient and Emergency Nursing Services and Endoscopy there. She previously held nursing positions at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, and Memorial City General Hospital, Houston. In addition, Burke has held teaching appointments at the University of Rhode Island, Providence, and Rhode Island College, Providence.
Burke is a member of the International Nursing Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau; Rhode Island State Nursing Association; American Organization for Nursing Executives; Massachusetts Organization of Nursing Executives, Rhode Island Region; a member of the Board of the American Nurses Credentialing Center for Credentialing Innovation; Leadership Rhode Island; American College of Healthcare Executives; and a former member of the Board of Rhode Island Quality Partners.
She is the author or co-author of seven publications in professional journals. Burke was the 2007 recipient of the University of Rhode Island Distinguished Service Award, the 2004 recipient of the Rhode Island State Nurses Association Nursing Leadership Award, the 2003 recipient of the Leadership Rhode Island Award, and the 2003 University of Rhode Island College of Nursing Annual Alumni Award.
Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets. It is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
