Physician Emeritus Spotlight

  Joseph Carmine Carpentieri, M.D. 

Born June 17, 1927 

Received his medical degree from Universite de Lausanne, Switzerland. 

Served as an intern and resident at Saint Francis Hospital and postgraduate fellow at Georgetown University, Washington. 

In 1964, became the first surgeon to perform a corneal transplant at Saint Francis Hospital. 

Dr. Carpentieri had a long-standing interest in boxing as a member of the Foxwoods Athletic Commission and ringside physician, a member of the Mohegan Sun gaming commission, and a member of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Division of Boxing Medical Advisory Board. 

Although Dr. Carpentieri retired from private practice in 2002, he continues to remain active as a ringside physician.
