Saint Francis Connects Patients to Electronic Medical Records from Multiple Providers

First in state to offer access through single online portal

(Hartford, Conn. July 24, 2015) Saint Francis Care is the first healthcare provider in the state to offer its patients the ability to connect medical records from multiple providers through a single online portal – MyChartCentral.

MyChartCentral provides the opportunity to link individual healthcare records from multiple providers that also use the Epic electronic medical record platform.  Through MyChartCentral, patients can bring together their Saint Francis MyCare electronic health record with records from other providers and view all their electronic medical data in one place.

“This is a game-changer for our patients,” said Linda Shanley, Vice President, Chief Information Officer. “For the first time, they have access to all their health records from different caregivers in one place. They have the ability to share information with each of those providers which will allow for more efficient, coordinated care.”

In order to use the benefits of MyChartCentral, patients must first register for a MyCare account. Saint Francis patients are provided a MyCare activation code following discharge from the Hospital or by requesting one from the www.SaintFrancisCare.com website and clicking on the link to MyCare on the top of the homepage.

Saint Francis initiated its MyCare online electronic health record program in April, 2014 and rolled out access to its physicians in the community on May 1, 2015.

MyCare offers patients personalized and secure online access to portions of their medical records, allowing them to safely receive and manage information about their health. With MyCare, patients can use the Internet to: view their health summary from the MyCare electronic health record; view test results; and access trusted health information resources.

MyChartCentral adds the ability to schedule appointments online, request prescription refills, communicate via email with caregivers and pay medical bills.

Patients can also access MyCare on their smartphone by downloading the Epic MyChart app – available for free in the app store for both IOS and Android devices.

Additionally, Saint Francis is one of three healthcare organizations in the state listed on the Blue Button Connector website www.bluebuttonconnector.com This government- sponsored site lists health insurance companies, hospitals, clinics, providers, pharmacies, labs and immunization registries that provide for patient access to medical records through an online portal such as MyCare and MyChartCentral.

The Blue Button Initiative is a public-private partnership based at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology in partnership with the White House, US Department of Veteran Affairs, The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the Department of Defense.
