Saint Francis to Open FastCare Clinics in Two Local Stop & Shop Locations

Simsbury and Manchester Stores to Get Convenient Care On-Site; More Sites to Follow

FastCare  (Hartford, Conn. – June 16, 2014)  Stop & Shop Supermarkets in Simsbury and Manchester will soon have access to high-quality healthcare services at the grocery stores through Saint Francis FastCare. Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Bellin Memorial Hospital, Inc., and Ahold USA, Inc., parent company of Stop and Shop LogoStop & Shop, to operate Saint Francis FastCare clinics at Stop & Shop locations at 498 Bushy Hill Road, Simsbury, and 286 Broad Street, Manchester.

The Simsbury Saint Francis FastCare location is slated to open in September, followed by the Manchester Saint Francis FastCare in October.  These will be the first two Saint Francis FastCare locations in the greater Hartford area, and the only primary care clinics located within a supermarket in Central Connecticut.

Saint Francis FastCare will provide enhanced access to high-quality healthcare services to area residents at locations that are convenient to them for those minor illnesses that can be diagnosed and treated quickly,” said Christopher M. Dadlez, President and Chief Executive Officer at Saint Francis.

“As a company that truly cares about the health and well-being of our communities, Stop & Shop is honored to partner with Saint Francis FastCare in our Simsbury and Manchester stores,” said Joe Kelley, president of Stop & Shop New England. “These services will provide our customers with convenient access to health care services year-round.”

Saint Francis FastCare will provide care for common, non-urgent illnesses and ailments such as cold and flu symptoms; administration of flu and shingles vaccines, or vaccinations for children going to summer camp or school; ear infections, insect bites, poison ivy, minor sunburn, sinus infection, and sore throat. On-site tests for rapid strep, urinalysis, urine pregnancy test, monospots and TB skin tests will also be available.

Services will be provided to patients 18 months of age or older. Age restrictions may exist for select services. Immediate referrals will be made to a physician when symptoms exceed the clinic’s scope of services. After each visit, a report will be sent to the patient’s primary care physician. For patients without a primary care physician, referrals can be made at a patient’s request.  If a prescription is needed, it will be immediately transmitted to the Stop & Shop pharmacy or the patient’s preferred alternative location.

Patients should always visit the Saint Francis Emergency Department for any life-threatening situations.

Saint Francis FastCare will be open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Sunday, 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; and Holidays (except Easter and Christmas) 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  No appointments are necessary. Facilities are staffed by Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who are licensed to prescribe medications.
