There’s only one place for heart surgery
that has you up and running in record time.
Just ask Joe.

The Hoffman Heart Institute Of Connecticut

When Joe, an avid marathon runner, was told he had a hole in his heart, his first worry was how long he’d be off his feet. "I was afraid I was going to have my ribs sawed open," says Joe. But at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Joe was introduced to an alternative not offered anywhere else in Connecticut: an advanced, minimally invasive procedure called PORT ACCESS* surgery. Performed by cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon S. Jacob Scheinerman, PORT ACCESS allows surgeons to make major cardiac repairs through a small incision, or "port," between the ribs. "The scar is so small, you can’t see it unless I raise my arm," says Joe. "And after only five weeks, I was running seven miles." So, while Joe may occasionally worry about his legs giving out, he now knows his heart can go the distance.

"With PORT ACCESS surgery, there’s no need for a large chest incision. Recovery is quicker. Scarring is dramatically reduced. For Joe, it made all the difference."

— S. Jacob Scheinerman, M.D., Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeon
