The Women’s Health Center is a single free standing building dedicated to women’s health. This single ambulatory facility allows the resident to gain continuity with their patients over the four years of training. Dedicated faculty guide the residents in all aspects of women’s primary and preventive health maintenance in addition to specialized obstetrical and gynecological care. The Women’s Health Center is modeled after a private practice so that residents become familiar with coding, billing, critical laboratory result follow up and management, office organizational structure and utilization of an electronic medical record.
Primary and preventive care in the Women’s Health Center focuses on sexually transmitted disease screening, prevention and treatment, HIV screening, domestic violence, family planning, prenatal care, diabetes screening, breast feeding, health maintenance, diet and treatment of uncomplicated primary care conditions. Ancillary support staff includes dietician, social work and financial counselors. The center also participates in several grants for underserved women.
The specialty clinics within the Women’s Health Center are attended by subspecialists and focus on high risk obstetrics, pre-invasive cervical disease, pelvic floor and incontinence disorders, vulvo-vaginal conditions, pre-operative planning and assessment and outpatient management of complicated patients. Specialized equipment in the Women’s Health Center includes ultrasound, colposcopy and multichannel urodynamics.
