Your orientation will be guided by nurse educators and clinical nurse specialists. In addition, a trained preceptor will provide you with competency-based education in the clinical setting.

Orientation will enable you to: 

  • Demonstrate competence in providing quality care for a defined population of patients

  • Participate as an integral part of the health care team to optimize patient outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the professional nurse-patient/family relationship

  • Foster a commitment to continued growth and professional development

Enhanced Orientation for new Graduate Nurses and Nurses who have been working in non-acute settings will also include:

  • Formal classes, hands-on application in a skill lab and clinical settings and computerized assisted learning experiences to facilitate professional development within the Saint Francis System

  • On going progress updates with the clinical nurse specialist, nurse manager and RN preceptor
