(HARTFORD, Conn.) – Laurie Anne Loiacono, M.D., of Somers, has been named Director of Surgical Critical Care at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Loiacono has been associated with Saint Francis since 2003, most recently serving as Associate Director of Surgical Critical Care. She had been associated with Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Mass., from 1995 to 2003, as Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, Dr. Loiacono served as an intern and resident at The Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, then as a fellow in surgical critical care at Hartford Hospital/University of Connecticut.

Dr. Loiacono is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and holds a certificate of specialty qualification in surgical critical care. She is an associate fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She holds teaching appointments as an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and the Tufts University School of Medicine, Boston. She serves as Associate Director of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Integrated Surgical Residency Program (Saint Francis Campus) and is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Association of Women Surgeons, the Neurotrauma Society and the National Organ Donation Breakthrough Collaborative.

Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets and is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
