(HARTFORD, Conn.) – Varalakshmi Venkatachalam, M.D., of West Hartford, has joined the Medical and Dental Staff of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
Dr. Venkatachalam received her medical degree from Kilpauk Medical College, Madras, India. She served as a senior house officer at hospitals in India and the United Kingdom, and as a resident in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
A diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Venkatachalam is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, American College of Physicians, Society of General Internal Medicine and the Connecticut State Medical Society. She holds an appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Dr. Venkatachalam previously served as Assistant Director of the Department of Medicine at Hartford Hospital. At Saint Francis, she will practice as a member of Saint Francis Medical Group, Inc. and serve as an academic hospitalist, specializing in inpatient care. A full-time faculty member with Saint Francis’ Department of Medicine, she will be involved in teaching rounds with medical students and residents.
Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets and is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
