Director of Infection Prevention
Conn. April 3, 2013) – Kathleen
A. Smith, R.N., MHSA, NEA-BC, of Seymour, has joined Saint Francis Hospital and
Medical Center as Director of Infection Prevention.
In her new position, Smith will be responsible for
coordinating the Infection Prevention Program at Saint Francis. She will also
be responsible for federal and state regulations concerning reportable disease
and infection control. Smith will educate staff and patients about best
practices related to infection control. She will serve as a member of the
Hospital’s Quality and Patient Safety Committee.

Adminstrative Director, Quality and Organizational Effectiveness. “Throughout
her career she has implemented many quality and safety programs that have
achieved significant results.”
Smith was previously Director, Perioperative Surgical
Regulatory Oversight, Infection Prevention, Same Day Surgery, PACU, Trauma
Program and Outpatient Therapy at Saint Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, where she
was employed for more than 15 years.
also previously served as the CEO of VNS Home Care in Rhode Island; Senior Vice
President, Nursing at White Plains Hospital Center ,White Plains, NY; and Director of Nursing at Nyack Hospital.
Prior to that she had been associated with The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital,
Smith completed a senior management fellowship program the
Hospital Association of New York with the Northern Metropolitan Hospital
Smith received her Masters in Human Service Administration
from the Antioch New England Graduate School, Keene, NH. She received an
associate of science degree from Northwestern Connecticut Community College and
is a graduate of the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing.
Smith is Board Certified by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center as a Certified Nurse Executive-Advanced. She was inducted
into Sigma Theta Tau, Inc. International Honor Society of Nursing and holds a Green
Belt in Six Sigma methodology.
