Saint Francis Hospital was founded in 1897 by Mother Ann Valencia Ailloude, C.S.J., and a small group of Sisters of Saint Joseph who came to Hartford from Chambery, France at the invitation of Bishop Michael Tierney.

The Saint Francis Foundation

Established in 1978, the Saint Francis Foundation is the fundraising and resource development organization for Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

The Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Foundation operates exclusively to advance the charitable, scientific and educational purposes of the Hospital through relationship building, community visibility and fund raising.

The Foundation also focuses the efforts of its volunteers and staff on major gifts and planned gifts to build Saint Francis' endowment so that the hospital can sustain its services to the community for generations to come.
