Certified nurse midwives (CNMs) are also advanced practitioners. They are registered nurses who have special training as midwives. In addition to delivering babies, CNMs provide a full range of primary health care services to women, including gynecology check-ups, prenatal and postpartum care. In Connecticut, CNMs are licensed to write their own prescriptions.
