Advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) have education and clinical experience
beyond the basic training of a registered nurse. An APRN holds a master's degree
and has extensive experience in a concentrated area of specialization, such as
cardiology or critical care.
At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, APRNs function as clinical nurse
specialists (CNS) and nurse practitioners (NP). They often are seen as "change
agents" because they provide clinical leadership in advancing the practice
of nursing by planning, directing and evaluating patient care.
