Our CT Cardiac Screening exam is a CT Scan of your heart performed with extremely thin scan slices and an electrocardiogram (EKG) that is gated in order to obtain clear pictures of your beating heart. The images of your heart are then evaluated for the presence or absence of coronary artery calcification. If coronary calcifications are present, they are scored on a 0 to 1,000-point scale which provides a risk assessment for future significant coronary artery related events such as heart attack.
The test is painless, and takes only a few minutes. You will lie on the CT table, and EKG leads will be placed on your chest. The actual CT Scan of your heart will take less than one minute.
The test is available for individuals 40 years or older. If you have chest pain, or heart or cardiac problems, please consult your physician.
