Kristen A. Zarfos, M.D., is the Director for the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. A general surgeon who specializes in breast care and endocrine surgery, Dr. Zarfos received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She served as an intern and resident in general surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital and as a resident and fellow in surgery at Baystate Medical Center, the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine, in Springfield, M.A.

A diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Zarfos is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Dr. Zarfos is a member of Woodland Physician Associates in Hartford and also has practice locations in West Hartford and Higganum.

Scheuster Christie, M.D. FACS is an assistant attending surgeon at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. A graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Christie completed residencies at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and Mount Zion Hospital Medical Center in San Francisco. Dr. Christie has ben in general surgery practice in the Hartford area since 1986 and has a special interest in breast disease and trauma.

John M. Dasilva, M.D. FACS graduated from University of Connecticut Medical School and is board certified in General Surgery. He has special clinical interests in GI, Breast and General Surgery. Dr. Dasilva is also fluent in Spanish and French.

James L. Frank, M.D. is the Director of Surgical Oncology at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Frank received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and served as an intern and resident in general surgery at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. In addition, Dr. Frank served as a fellow in surgical oncology at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond.

A diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Frank is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Cancer Society, the New England Cancer Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He currently holds teaching appointments at Tufts University School of Medicine and Springfield College.

Dr. Frank is a member of Surgical Group, P.C., in Hartford.

Youssef Horanieh, M.D. FACS I attended medical school at Damascus University in Damascus, Syria between the years of 1965 and 1971 when I graduated with an M.D. degree. I traveled to the United States in late 1971 to Cleveland, Ohio where I did a rotation internship between January 1972 through June 1973. I began my residency in General Surgery at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut on July 1, 1973 and completed it on June 30, 1977. I then did a year of fellowship at Mt. Sinai hospital in Hartford, Connecticut in General Surgery from July 1, 1977 to June 30, 1978. I became Board Certified in General Surgery and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1979 and re-certified in 1999. I opened a solo practice in July of 1978 practicing General Surgery in Hartford, Connecticut. I am affiliated with Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. I joined the Surgical Group in 1996. We are a 9 member General Surgery Group in Connectucut and have several satellite offices in the greater Hartford area. Interests relating to my practice are laparoscopic surgery, breast surgery, abdominal surgery, and hernia surgery. I met my wife JoAnn who is from West Hartford at Saint Francis Hospital while I was a resident. We got married in 1978 and have 3 daughters. We reside in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Pupinder Jaswal, M.D.

Bruce M. Kaplan, M.D. He coordinates the integration of radiation oncology services in Saint Francis' cancer program and oversees radiation oncology research projects and clinical trials. He received his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa; served an internship at the University of Tennessee-City of Memphis Hospital and a residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. A diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, Dr. Kaplan holds an appointment as an assistant clinical professor of radiology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the New England Society of Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiology and the Connecticut Oncology Association.

N. Chandra N. Narayanan, M.D. FACS

Susan Nancy Rabinowe, M.D., is an attending physician at the Saint Francis/Mount Sinai Care Regional Cancer Center. A graduate of the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Rabinowe served as an intern and resident in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital. Before joining Saint Francis in 1993, she was a fellow in hematology-oncology at Tufts New England Medical Center, Boston. Dr. Rabinowe was a fellow in bone marrow transplantation, an attending physician on the Bone Marrow Transplant Service and held an appointment as an instructor in the Division of Tumor Immunology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston. She was also a research fellow in the Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston. Dr. Rabinowe is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and its Subspecialty Board on Medical Oncology. She also is board-eligible in hematology. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Rabinowe received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from the University of Rochester.

Zia U. Rahman, M.D. is an attending physician at the Saint Francis Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center and assistant professor of clinical medicine at University of Connecticut, School of Medicine. He received pathology residency training at University of Connecticut and internal medicine residency training at the State University of New York in Long Island. After completing fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, he joined University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center as Assistant Professor of Medicine. There he coordinated Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic and was an attending physician in the Departments of Breast Medical Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation. His main interest has been clinical trials and development of new drugs and biologic agents. He has published extensively. In 1998, he decided to move back to Hartford area and since then has been at Saint Francis Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center. He is a diplomat of American Boards of Pathology, Internal Medicine and its subspecialties Boards in Oncology and Hematology. He is also an active member of American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Hematology and New England Cancer Society.
