Treatment Principles

At the Cancer Center we are staffed and equipped to provide comprehensive care for virtually any cancer, except early childhood cancers. Highly specific, state-of-the-art treatment regimens, as well as experimental protocols are available together with sophisticated diagnostic services. In addition to comprehensive cancer therapies we provide complete first- and second-opinion consultations for patients with complex cancerous (malignant) diseases and also non-malignant blood (hematologic) disorders. Care is rendered to each patient by multidisciplinary care teams. Physicians and care specialists work together, sharing their expertise and best-practice protocols to create patient specific disease centered treatment plans. Each member of the team is not only a highly skilled cancer care specialist, but also a compassionate caregiver committed to restoring people to good health.
At Saint Francis/Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center we do not just treat cancer. We treat people with cancer. We are sensitive to the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of each patient. We realize that no one fights cancer alone, neither the patients nor the doctors. It takes a team effort with a course of treatment as individualized as the person receiving it. To help with those goals, we have carefully designed the entire Saint Francis/Mount Sinai Regional Cancer Center facility to be easily accessible with a comfortable, sophisticated, warm environment of caring that is conducive to healing. Because the immune system is greatly influenced by the mind, we are cognizant of the fact that making patients feel good actually helps them combat disease. That is why our patients are encouraged to take an active role in their treatment, acquire the information and support services they need to reduce stress and regain a sense of control. To assist them, each patient receives the personal, dedicated attention of one specialist and one primary care nurse, aided by social workers and a team of holistic support staff. Families, too, are encouraged to participate. In summary, we are providing world class service that is individualized for each patient.
