| Statement: |
Dr. Nelson grew up in a small town in upstate New York, graduating from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania in 1979 with a major in Chemistry. She went on to receive her MD degree in 1983 from the State University of New York in Stonybrook, and then completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. She spent the next five years at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, completing an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency and researching interferons and cancer. Her fellowship training in Oncology was completed at Yale University in 1991.
She served as Assistant Professor and then division chief of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School from 1991 - 1999 where, in addition to caring for patients, she was actively involved in teaching medical students and residents.
Dr. Nelson is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Her outside interests include gardening, traveling and bicycling, including 200 and 300 mile bike fundraisers for cancer and AIDS each summer. |
