Dr. Carlos Barba graduated from the University of Panama Medical School in 1983. He completed his surgical residency at McGill University in Montreal, Canada where he performed over 200 gastric bypass procedures. Subsequently, he completed a fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.
Dr. Barba has been working at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center since July 1993. He started to perform bariatric surgery at Saint Francis in 1995 and established the Connecticut Office for Obesity Surgery in 1997. Dr. Barba is a member of multiple surgical societies including the American Society of Bariatric Surgery and has written for national publications and journals regarding obesity surgery. Dr. Barba performs laparoscopic and open gastric bypass surgery. He has introduced in Connecticut a new tridimensional technology for the performance of advanced laparoscopic procedures and was the first surgeon to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass in the Connecticut. Dr. Barba continues to be active in the research field of obesity and has given multiple presentations at national and international conferences regarding this subject. |
