The Saint Francis Hospital Nursing Fellowships are designed to provide new graduates with the opportunity to have a planned first work experience that leads to the development of clinical and professional skills necessary to be competent in the selected practice area
Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center believes it has a responsibility
to our public as well as to our employees to foster career development as a life- long learning experience in order to maximize individual potential.
The purpose of the program is to provide a systematic approach to the practice that will prepare the nurse to care for a specific population of patients Through this program the nurse will develop the personal and professional skills necessary to be a competent practitioner.
Objectives
At the end of the Fellowship experience the professional nurse will be able to:
- Demonstrate competence in providing quality
cost-effective nursing care for a defined population of patients.
- Participate as an integral member of the Health
Care Team to optimize patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the professional
nurse-patient/family relationship.
- Formulate a plan for continued professional growth and development.
Curriculum Includes:
- Competency-based orientation with
a clinical preceptor in a variety of clinical settings.
- Formal classes, tutorials, computerized assisted learning, and other learning experiences
to facilitate professional development within the Saint Francis Care System.
- Ongoing evaluations of progress through meetings with the clinical nurse specialist, nurse manager and preceptor.
