Our Purpose

The purpose of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center (SFHMC) is to protect the rights and welfare of subjects participating in research. All research involving human subjects must be approved by the IRB before the research is begun, and most funding organizations and foundations will not consider supporting a research project until IRB approval has been received. All ethically minded individuals should take an interest in protecting the rights and welfare of research participants, without whom we could not advance our knowledge.

A complete statement of Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center's compliance with Federal regulations can be found in the Federalwide Assurance of Protection for Human Subjects on file with the Department of Health and Human Services. This document may be obtained by calling the IRB office at (860) 714-4068.

If you have questions, concerns or complaints about a research study at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, please call the IRB office at (860) 714-4068. You may also call the IRB if you want to obtain information or offer input about research at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
