Virtually all cancers, except certain childhood cancers are treated in the Cancer Center by cancer specialists such as medical oncologists (internists specializing in cancer medicine), radiation oncologists (radiation therapy specialists), surgical oncologists (cancer surgeons) or gynecologic oncologists (gynecologists specializing in female reproductive cancers).

To develop the best treatment strategy, streamline the various cancer treatments, and effectively coordinate the treatment modalities, we are building “Programs of Excellence” for organ system specific cancers. In these “Programs of Excellence” a team of experts, who are specialists in a particular organ system, works together to optimize the treatment approach for any given patient who has been referred to that particular center or “Program of Excellence.”

At present we are developing the following programs:

• Breast Cancer Service
  for patients with breast cancer
  
  
• Gastrointestinal Cancer Service
  for patients with esophageal, stomach, liver, pancreas, colon, rectal and other cancers of the digestive tract
  
  
• Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukemia Service
  for patients with Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, acute and chronic leukemias, multiple myeloma, myelodysplasia syndromes and related blood borne cancers
  
  
• Female Reproductive Cancer Service
  for patients with ovarian cancers, cancers of the uterus, cancer of the vulva and other female cancers
  
  
• Urologic Cancer Service
  for patients with bladder cancer, renal cancer, prostate cancer and other urologic cancers
  
  
• Lung Cancer Service
  for small cell and non-small cell cancers of the lung.
