SAINT FRANCIS NAMES DR. LOIACONO TO ADDITIONAL POSTS Will Serve as Department Vice Chair and Surgical Education Director

(HARTFORD, Conn.) Laurie Anne Loiacono, M.D., of Somers, has assumed additional responsibilities within the Department of Surgery at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Loiacono, who had been serving as Director of Surgical Critical Care, has now assumed the additional duties of the departments Vice Chair and Director of Surgical Education.
In her new role, Dr. Loiacono oversees the teaching programs of the Department of Surgery and assists the Chairman, Jeffrey Steinberg, M.D., in the administration of the department. The focus of her new position includes surgical program support and development, recruitment, and quality improvement. Dr. Loiacono also holds an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
A native of Harrison, N.Y., Dr. Loiacono received her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. She served as an intern and resident in surgery at The Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, and as a fellow in surgical critical care at Hartford Hospital/University of Connecticut. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and holds a certificate of added qualifications in surgical critical care. Dr. Loiacono also has completed advanced training in wound care and hyperbaric medicine.
She is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Association of Women Surgeons, the Neurotrauma Society, the National Organ Donation Breakthrough Collaborative, and the Wound Healing Society.
Prior to joining Saint Francis in 2003, Dr. Loiacono served as Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Mass.
Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets and is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
