SAINT FRANCIS NURSE CO-EDITS NEONATAL SURGICAL TEXTBOOK

(HARTFORD, Conn.) -- Diane Longobucco, R.N.C., M.S.N., A.P.R.N., N.N.P., of Torrington, a clinical nursing specialist for women and childrens services at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, is the co-editor of the first neonatal surgical nursing textbook intended for bedside clinicians around the world. The book, Surgical Procedures: A Guide for Care and Management, has just been published by NICU Ink Book Publishers of Santa Rosa, Calif., a publishing company specializing in texts and journals on neonatal issues.
An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Longobucco has been employed by Saint Francis since 1988. She received a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Saint Joseph College and a master of science in nursing degree from the University of Connecticut. She is certified in neonatal intensive care nursing and as a neonatal nurse practitioner. She has held appointments as a clinical instructor at many nursing schools including the University of Connecticut, Saint Joseph College, Elms College, Yale University, the University of Massachusetts, and Sacred Heart University.
Longobucco received the Saint Joseph College Distinguished Alumnae Award in 1996, the NCC Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse of the Year Award in 1995, and was a 2006 Nightingale Award recipient.
Surgical Procedures: A Guide for Care and Management is a concise resource that provides the bedside clinician with information on various neonatal surgical conditions. In addition to serving as co-editor, Longobucco also wrote one of the 14 chapters in the book. In her chapter, Surgical Repair of Defects and Injuries of the Extremities in the Neonatal Period,� different malformations/deformations of the extremities that occur during development or by injury encountered at birth are discussed.
Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets and is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
