VASCULAR LABORATORY AT SAINT FRANCIS RECEIVES ACCREDITATION Radiology and Imaging Services Recognized for Patient Care and Quality Testing in Diagnosing Vascular Disease

(Hartford, Conn.) The Radiology and Imaging Services Laboratory at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center has achieved accreditation for its commitment to providing a high level of patient care and quality testing for the diagnosis of vascular disease.
The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) granted accreditation after the lab met the standards for noninvasive vascular testing. During the accreditation process, every aspect of the laboratorys daily operations and its impact on the quality of healthcare provided to patients is assessed and reviewed. Laboratories are required to identify and correct potential problems, revise protocols and validate quality assurance programs.
By utilizing noninvasive vascular testing techniques performed in our vascular laboratory, we can detect early on life-threatening vascular diseases. Its a vital role given the statistics of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death in the United States,� said Dr. Michael Twohig, Director of Radiology and Imaging Services at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

The ICAVL is a non-profit organization established with the support of eleven medical societies including physicians, technologists and sonographers that represent medical specialties including cardiology, neurology, radiology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, internal medicine, and biology.
Founded in 1897, Saint Francis is a major teaching hospital licensed for 617 acute inpatient beds and 65 bassinets and is the largest Catholic hospital in New England.
