What is the most important information I should know about anidulafungin? |
|
•

Use this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended by your doctor. |
|
•
|
Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. |
|
•
|
There may be other drugs that can affect anidulafungin. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor. |

|
Stop using this medication and get emergency medical help if you think you have used too much medicine, or if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. |
|
•
|
Less serious side effects are more likely, and you may have none at all. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or is especially bothersome. |
 |
•
|
Use this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. |
|
•
|
Anidulafungin is an antifungal antibiotic. It helps your body fight infection caused by a fungus. |
|
•
|
Anidulafungin treats candida (yeast) infections in the blood, or in the stomach or esophagus. |
|
•
|
Anidulafungin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. |
|
What should I discuss with my health care provider before taking anidulafungin? |
|
•
|
Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you have liver disease. |
|
•
|
If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use anidulafungin, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment. |
 |
•
|
FDA pregnancy category C. This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. |
 |
•
|
It is not known whether anidulafungin passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. |
|
How should I take anidulafungin? |
|
•
|
Use anidulafungin exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not use it in larger amounts or for longer than recommended by your doctor. |
|
•
|
Anidulafungin is given as an injection into a vein. Your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist will give you specific instructions on how and where to inject this medicine. Do not give yourself an injection if you do not understand these instructions. Call your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist for help with injection instructions. |
|
•
|
Use each needle and syringe only one time. With your medicine you will receive a puncture-proof container for used needles and syringes. If you do not receive a container, ask your pharmacist for one. Keep this container out of the reach of children and pets. Your pharmacist can tell you how to properly dispose of the container. |
|
•
|
Use this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor. Your symptoms may get better before the infection is completely treated. |

|
Store anidulafungin at room temperature away from heat. Do not freeze. |
|
•
|
After the medicine has been mixed, you must use it within 24 hours. |
|
What happens if I miss a dose? |
|
•
|
Use the medication as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and wait until your next regularly scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose. |
|
What happens if I overdose? |
|
•
|
Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Symptoms of an anidulafungin overdose are unknown. |
|
What should I avoid while taking anidulafungin? |
|
•
|
There are no restrictions on food, beverages, or activity while using anidulafungin unless your doctor has told you otherwise. |
|
What are the possible side effects of anidulafungin? |
|
•
|
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. |
|
•
|
Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: |
|
· |
feeling light-headed or faint; or |
|
· |
confusion, weakness, dry mouth, or muscle tenderness. |
|
•
|
Other less serious side effects are more likely to occur, such as: |
|
· |
diarrhea or constipation; |
|
· |
nausea, vomiting, stomach pain; or |
|
•
|
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. |
|
What other drugs will affect anidulafungin? |
|
•
|
There may be other drugs that can affect anidulafungin. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your doctor. |
