|
Back |
The Graduate Nurse Residency Program at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center offers the graduate nurse a phased transition into acute care nursing during the first year following graduation. Phase I is a 12-week orientation which includes formal classes, skills labs, computer assisted learning, and a preceptored clinical experience using a variety of clinical settings. The Graduate Resident receives ongoing evaluation of progress through meetings with the Clinical Nurse Specialist/Nurse Educator, preceptor, and Nurse Manager. During Phase II, the Graduate Resident assumes a more independent role, and focuses on reflective thinking, and leadership development. This phase may last up to an additional 12 weeks. Phase III marks the transition to independent practice with continuing support for the Graduate Resident through mentoring relationships.
The Student Nurse Internship Program is an 8-week course designed to provide nursing students entering their Senior year the opportunity for clinical practice experience in a supportive learning environment. The program is designed to assist student nurses to improve their clinical skills, their interpersonal skills, and their ability to function as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
