A key component of the Saint Francis Physician Hospital Organization (PHO) Medical Management model is the leadership of the PHO's three Medical Directors.

The PHO Medical Directors:

• Provide concurrent and retrospective review of inpatient care in accordance with Hospital and PHO utilization management policies
• Collaborate with the Hospital case managers, inpatient nurse reviewers and Payor Medical Directors
• Facilitate appropriate utilization of resources
• Ensure efficient provision of care
• Monitor quality of care and physician compliance with Hospital and PHO utilization management policies and procedures

Two of the PHO Medical Directors are assigned to act as liaisons to designated PHO payors.  The third PHO Medical Director performs utilization review and medical management functions for the Hospital's traditional Medicare population.
