Purpose

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center sponsors three child care centers for the children of employees and house staff members in order to provide parents with a quality child care option convenient to their work place.

The Saint Francis Child Care Centers provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment where young children may use their natural curiosity and energy to learn about themselves and their word. A program of activities designed to encourage physical, cognitive, social and emotional development is offered by a professional and experienced staff.

The centers also strive to support and strengthen family life. Parents are encouraged to participate in the planning for their children and for special events and to serve on the Child Care Advisory Committee.

The centers are licensed by the Connecticut State Department of Public Health and accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. Each center benefits from the advice of the professional staff at the hospital and the availability of emergency medical care. Other hospital services and departments offer valuable support.

PROGRAMS

The Preschool Center as well as the Infant and Toddler Center are housed in attractive, homelike settings directly across the street from the hospital. The buildings have been completely renovated and equipped for young children.

Children ages six weeks to five years may receive care for either a full day (up to 9 hours) or a half day (up to 4.5 hours). Frequent attendance on a regular basis is required so that children may adjust comfortably and become involved in the program. The centers are open from 06:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of holidays. At present, the fee for five full days in our Infant and Toddler Program is $202.00 per week. The fee for five full days in our Preschool Program is $172.00 per week. A registration fee of one week tuition is due upon acceptance into the center. The daily schedule includes a balance of active and quiet times, indoor and outdoor play. Activities are planned to help children master a variety of skills, express their creative ideas and learn to respect themselves and others. A light breakfast, a hot meal in the middle of the day and two snacks are provided by the hospital's department of Food and Nutrition Services.
