The Radiation Oncology Physician, aided by a team of support staff, is ultimately responsible for the selection of the radiation therapy, the treatment planning, and the supervision of the execution of the treatment. There are three experienced Radiation Oncology Physicians, all board certified by AVR in Radiation Oncology, and all at the rank of Senior Attending Physician.
Department Staff
Our staff includes nine Radiation Therapy Technologists who operate the linear accelerator units to administer the daily radiation treatments under the direction of the physicians. All are board-certified by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
Susan Masse, RN and Laura Patrick, R.N. are our two Radiation Oncology Nurses. They assist in the teaching, monitoring, and medical management of our patients during therapy. In addition, they also provide assistance and support to patients during and after their treatments. They encourage you to call them with any concerns or questions you might have regarding your treatments.
The Medical Physics section is directed by Ellen Grein, PhD., a nationally renowned Medical Physicist. Her staff is responsible for assisting in the complex planning and computer calculations necessary for the advanced radiation treatment techniques. In addition to Dr Grein, our the Medical Physics section includes George Daskalov, PhD and Lucy Nedialkova, PhD. They help to perform the complex computer planning and Quality Assurance testing for Stereotactic Radiosurgery, IMRT, and brachytherapy treatments. The Physics section also includes our two experienced and board-certified Medical Dosimetrists. Working closely with the physicians and physicists, they are responsible for the computer planning for external beam, 3-D conformal, and IMRT radiation treatments.
To assist in the emotional and trying experience of facing cancer, we have two social workers available at the Cancer Center. They offer personal counseling for patients and their families. Other services offered include assistance in obtaining transportation for treatments, as well as coordinating our various support groups.
Nutritional needs are extremely important for anyone undergoing cancer treatments. The Cancer Center has a dedicated Registered Dietitian, Alison Laudati, R.D. She reviews and assesses each patient's dietary needs, and provides dietary counseling during and after treatments.
